The Lok Sabha Privileges Committee chaired by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sunil Singh has summoned BJP’s Delhi lawmaker Ramesh Bidhuri and Bahujan Samaj Party MP from Amroha Kunwar Danish Ali to appear before it on December 7. This is in connection with the breach of privilege complaints that have been received against both these MPs.
The panel had earlier summoned Bidhuri to appear before it in the second week of December. However, he had written to the chairman, expressing his inability to attend, citing that he was on election duty in Tonk, Rajasthan.
While the committee recently recommended the expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra over a breach of ethics and practises by sharing her Lok Sabha login credentials with businessman Darshan Hiranandani, she has asked on multiple platforms why her case was taken up in such a hurry whereas BJP MP Bidhuri was seemingly excused from appearing before the panel.
During the last day of the special session of Parliament in September, during a discussion on India’s successful Chandrayaan mission, Bidhuri used multiple abusive and religious slurs against Danish Ali.
Following this, several members of the opposition camp filed a breach of privilege complaint against Bidhuri. Among them were Lok Sabha MPs like Kanimozhi and Supriya Sule.
In response, a few MPs from the BJP camp, including Nishikant Dubey and Ravi Kishan, filed complaints against Danish Ali for “being very aggressive and provocative” when the other lawmakers were speaking on the floor of the house.
Both of these complaints were referred to the committee by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
